As of early today, Saturday, Signal No. 1 has been raised over three areas in the Philippines due to Tropical Depression Julian’s movement over the Philippine Sea. The affected areas include Cagayan, including the Babuyan Islands; the northeastern portion of Isabela; and the eastern portion of Apayao.
Julian is currently located approximately 430 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour.
Julian is expected to intensify into a tropical storm by Saturday afternoon and could become a typhoon by Monday. It is projected to follow a looping path over the waters east of Batanes and Cagayan, potentially making landfall over Batanes by Monday afternoon or evening before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.
Residents in Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands, are advised to prepare for rains with gusty winds, while areas such as Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Abra will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to Julian’s influence. Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are expected in Northern Luzon.
