Authorities have intercepted over P600,000 worth of illegal drugs in a significant operation in Sison town, leading to the arrest of two individuals classified as high-value targets.

The Regional Drug Enforcement Unit 1, alongside local law enforcement agencies, conducted a meticulous buy-bust operation near the Agat-Dungon Bypass Road in Barangay Agat, resulting in the apprehension of the suspects. These individuals, a 53-year-old resident of Barangay Poblacion East and a 46-year-old from Poblacion West, Umingan, were caught with 10 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing approximately 100 grams of suspected shabu. The confiscated drugs have an estimated market value of P680,000.

Police Lieutenant Randy Navarro of the Sison Municipal Police Station confirmed that the suspects will face charges under Sections 5 and 11 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (Republic Act 9165). Both suspects have previous criminal records; one was charged with robbery extortion in 2014, while the other faced drug-selling accusations under the same act in 2011.

This incident marks the second major illegal drug bust in Sison this year, indicating ongoing challenges in combating illicit drug activities. The prior case occurred in May and involved individuals from outside the municipality.

Despite these developments, Sison remains designated as a drug-cleared municipality. Local officials emphasize community vigilance and encourage residents to report suspicious activities to help maintain this status.
