The Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) is a leading organization committed to enhancing the tourism landscape in the country. As the primary network for tourism professionals, ATOP fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and advocacy, aiming to uplift the standards of tourism through strengthened institutional capabilities, professional development, and unity within the industry. Pangasinan Pursues Recognition at the ATOP Pearl Awards
In line with ATOP’s mission to honor excellence in tourism, the Provincial Government of Pangasinan, led by Governor Ramon V. Guico III, has been named a finalist in this year’s prestigious ATOP Pearl Awards. This annual awards program celebrates individuals, organizations, and local government units (LGUs) that have made significant contributions to the promotion and development of tourism in the Philippines.
Pangasinan, represented by the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO) under the leadership of Maria Luisa A. Elduayan, has advanced to the national finals in three distinct categories:
- Best Sports Tourism Event: Recognized for the Philippine Beach Games, held in April 2023 at the Capitol Beachfront, showcasing Pangasinan’s potential as a prime sports tourism destination.
- Best International Event Hosting: The International Conference on Pangasinan and Bulosan Studies, held from November 27 to 29, 2023, brought together scholars and researchers to explore multidisciplinary studies on Pangasinan, highlighting the province’s cultural and academic significance on a global stage.
- Best Souvenir (Non-Food): Pangasinan’s Banaan Museum Souvenir Items, featuring One-Town-One-Product (OTOP) crafts, are displayed at the Banaan Pangasinan Provincial Museum within the historic Casa Real. This initiative, in partnership with local producers, offers visitors unique souvenirs that reflect the province’s rich cultural heritage.
The ATOP Pearl Awards ceremony, marking its silver anniversary, will take place on October 10, 2024, in Sultan Kudarat, where winners will be announced, including the Champion, 1st Runner-up, and 2nd Runner-up. Pangasinan’s participation underscores its commitment to tourism excellence and its ongoing efforts to bring regional culture and heritage to the forefront of the Philippine tourism industry.
